The Power of Morning Routines: A Mindful Start to Your Day

When I was just getting started in my healing and transformation journey, the first thing I started with was setting up a solid morning routine.

I have never been a morning person so this was something I had to really create hard boundaries for myself in order to hold myself accountable & set myself up for success.

I don't know about you, but this was not my first attempt in creating a morning routine to stick to. Ha! To say I have been inconsistent up until about two years ago, would be an understatement.

I feel like I have always known what to do but have often lacked motivation or direction on how to get started or what to do first. This has been tied to limiting beliefs of what if I fail? What if I sleep in one day? What if I let myself down by not sticking to this morning routine?- Even ONE time!?

The thoughts I've had in the past, were different this time, when I decided that enough was enough, & that the first thing I was going to do to begin to change my life was to establish an easy morning routine.

If you are looking for a startingplace to really kickstart your transformation, I would suggest starting with a few of the following routine practices you can start to add and implement into your daily routine.

I gurantee the changes you will see, by practicing a morning routine will greatly impact the transformation you want to have within your life.

This was the first thing I did to jumpstart my mindset shift so I'm confident the same can happen to you my friend.

  • Reflection & Intention Setting: Spend a few minutes reflecting on your goals & intentions. What do you want to acheive in your personal & professional lives? Setting positive intentions for the day ahead can provide clarity & purpose.

  • Wake up Early: Wake up a bit earlier than usual to allow ample time for your morning routine. Remember, we are setting ourselves up for success by making the time to implement the routine.

  • Hydration & Nutrition: Starting the day with a glass of water to hydrate the body aids in clarity, & flushes out toxins that prevent us from thinking clearly. Having breakfast can also be a great morning routine addition.

  • Mindfulness & Gratitude: Practice mindfulness or meditation exercises into your routine. This can be through guided meditations, gratitude journal, or just reflecting on all that you are grateful & thankful for. Mindfulness requires you to sink into the feelings you feel

  • Personal Development: Dedicating time to personal development activities such as reading a motivational book, listening to a podcast, or engaging in affirmations helps in nurturing a growth mindset.

  • Prioritize Tasks:Creating To-Do lists or Brain Dumps & prioritizing tasks based on importance helps maintain focus & reduces feelings of overwhelm.

  • Consistency: Developing a morning routine takes time so please be patient & make adjustments as needed to be the most successful at remaining consistent with your new routine.

If you are anything like me, you can tend to overload your plate with all the things you want to do because in the moment you feel that gung-ho about your new venture to changing your life. However, please let me stress to you that this is a marathon; not a sprint.

With this in mind, it is my suggestion that you only pick a few items off the list to start off with.

In my experience with creating my first, ever-evolving, morning routine, I knew I wanted to focus on the full transformation of my life so for me, that looked a little something like this:

Wake up at 5

Walk for 30 minutes

Journal for 30 minutes: This is usually how I pray and get into my meditation & affirmation stage of my morning routine.

Read for 30 minutes: Typically the things I'm reading are for the intent of self & professional development. Always looking to grow & learn new things.

I would then go about my morning by showering & setting the intention to get myself put together. This meant getting dressed in nicer clothes, & doing my hair & makeup. Did I do this every day? Nah. But I did notice that when I spent the extra time to spend time on my growth and development, I felt better & knew that if I felt better, I must be doing something right.
